I really like it, but It would be more useful to me, if it were not “Internet Connection Required”…
This game could be brilliant, but it does some massively annoying things.
Stop that god awful pop up that tells me how to reset my kayak with the long press left trigger if I get stuck. I will NEVER use the reset, I like getting myself free with my paddle, it’s much more immersive - well, it would be if my screen wasn’t covered in an ugly “tip” that I can’t turn off! Please give us the option to remove this, it’s so ugly and so unnecessary. Maybe just tell us a couple of times, during the tutorial. Not constantly and forever!!
When a menu pops up (usually because I ran out of time on the time trial) I want to hit the restart button and go again… But, sometimes the restart (and all buttons) are inside a rock. You can still see them, but you can see your “cursor” which makes it shockingly hard to hit the buttons.
These things aside the game is truly lovely. I’d like to see more levels and some refinements. Sometimes the water splashes look absolutely awful, far too 2D and low definition. And at times the water has extreme angles and straight edges that are begging for a little more curve.
The handling is ok-ish. It’s certainly not a patch on Kayak VR Mirage on Steam. But I was really pleased to find a decent looking Kayak experience that works on the Q3 without having to go through the pain of getting my headset and gaming laptop to play nicely together.
Overall this game is a LOT of fun, and also extremely frustrating (not because it’s hard, but because of the stupid decisions to spam me with the hideous reset tip!!) and because the handling isn’t great, so you will miss a lot of the crates that you would have definitely not missed if you were in a real kayak!!
I was pleased that I could remove the timer in free ride mode. But I want to remove ALL of the onscreen stuff, in every mode! Just me, a kayak, the water, and beautiful scenery please… oh, I almost forgot, I love the fish.
If you don’t have a gaming PC this is a decent kayaking experience. If you do have a gaming pc then Kayak VR Mirage is a LOT better… but where this beats Mirage hands down is the rapid flow of the water. It’s much better going down rapids than paddling along a level river.
With some really quick basic tweaks (remove that reset tip!!!) it will instantly be a LOT more immersive and a much more pleasurable experience. And with some hard work on the physics it could be truly brilliant.
Definitely worth the low price tag, even with the current frustrations.
Can’t wait for more places !
I purchased this, thinking it would be like Kayak VR Mirage, on Steam. It's nothing like it.
This game is just awkward. The physics are way off. When you hit a snag and hit the reset button, it places you in exactly the same position to hit the same snag again... and again.... and again.
Perhaps this is my fault, as I'm using a third party Kayaking adaptor for my controllers.
I just wish the devs of Kayak VR Mirage would release their app on the Meta Store.
Great game but obstacles kill it from being a fun relaxing experience . There should be an option to remove any obstacles and have a relaxing experience going down the river . And not get hit while trying to avoid unnecessary rocks
It took a while to get use to how paddles worked (probably as o.a.p.)but once I did, wow !!! what a rush. ,hard but brilliant….just a pity there is nowhere I can see in game where my times could be saved ( use piece paper at moment) my favourite is the eastern Iceland-rapids.really great ……perhaps in the future more locations, but what there is worth the price Well done the devs
