Swing your arms to run, not like Gorilla Tag, but more like in real life. It does feel quite natural and comfortable, except there's no way to run backwards (to correct running too far), except using your joystick which moves very slowly. Aside from that drawback, it's very fun. There's climbing, dodging/hiding, crouching, etc. Graphics is okay.
While I picked this up with minimal expections, I can see it becoming one of my favorite apps and a regular part of my VR fitness routine. The game is all about running large obstacle courses and includes a cute but easily ignored story line related to titular Mr. Venture. The game starts with a tutorial which does a great job allowing you to get comfortable with the basic controls. I have only played the first obstacle course (twice now), but I have found the fun factor to be so high that I feel compelled to write this review now - the game is already 5 stars for me. The first course is really huge and includes a great variety of interesting mechanics (crouching, climbing, running, timing sections, rotating handles, simple puzzles). Fortunately there are multiple checkpoints so it never gets frustrating and I can see replaying this level until I get a perfect run. While the graphics are just decent, they get the job done. The controls are well thought out and the physics seem good although I did find the continued momentum when you stop running to be a bit frustrating at times. I also feel like I am getting a good workout while really enjoying myself.
The only games comparable to Venture’s Gauntlet that I have played in VR is the excellent Climb series. This game deserves to find it’s audience and I highly recommend it.
I played the training mission twice, and both the times , there is a part where you have to hold a wooden stick on a rope with both hands that transports you a few meters farther, but when I land on the wooden platform, it seems that my legs are too long in the game, and I drop/fall /sink below the wooden floor where I landed, becoming entrapped surrounded by 3 wooden walls. I have to exit to the game menu. I guess this can be fixed easy. Anyhow, the training mission parts that I played are fun. The game looks good and there is some nice humor. Got it for cheap, so here is 5 stars for the team.
This game has a great story, as well as smooth & intuitive movement and workout mechanics. Absolutely loving it so far
It's a fun game. Get it.
The concept is simple but perfect.
One level a day is a good warm up.
