This is a decent non-VR game that feels only halfway adapted to VR. There are still many references to keyboard controls, poorly translated missions in Spanish (possibly due to incorrect UTF-8 encoding), and a broken interface where ship components stick out on the left side. I'll wait for these issues to be fixed—games shouldn't be released in this unfinished state.
An older sci-fi MMO brought back to life in VR. I've only played it on the VR version and so far it's a fun play, there's a fair amount of depth in the ships, the add-ons, and your personal character progression.
The gameplay loop might be a bit basic I am seeing similar types of missions popping up repeatedly. Though the space combat is quite fun, so you definitely do need to customize your controls a little bit and find out what settings work for you the best.
Looks like there's regular events, options for people who want to do PVP, doesn't appear to be a crafting system per say but there's definitely resource gathering etc.
It's definitely a game you'll probably have more fun with friends than solo but at the moment I'm having fun just on my own.
It's a freemium model, so you can play completely free (minus the initial purchase) and you do earn a currency required for some types of equipment/ships. You can of course buy that currency if you wish but I have had no real need. I don't suspect that changing anytime soon. There appears to be also a standard subscription model like most MMOs that gets rid of that if it annoys you.
VO was Made for VR. 100%. Just a few small frictions: i really think (only) Bars should have shared presence for players in vr. Ill take a barebone stock asset avatar model with its polygon skin colored to match nation and no interactibility besides spatial voice audio, not asking for anything extensive or involved: i know how against even walkable planets some ppl have been. As for bugs: i personally fly without the background on, i find it more immersive to be surrounded by darkness, but it turns back on every time i restart the game in VR: its possible other settings are reverting too. My mate had an issue where undocking without a battery broke his UI, and trying to buy a light sub on my acct crashed my ui as well: the meta store claims not to support gem or sub purchases, so i had to buy my sub on mobile.
The default controller scheme also seems to be widely hated. I can share mine on the forums soon to offer an alternative.
I look forward to the day VO in VR is running 500+ people fleets and we finally justify you giving us player owned, built and deployable stations, so we can truly own our own space in the 'Verse.
Also, the lore makes me cry. It's great.
As an older gamer I grew up with elite this is basically X2 in VR in an mmo setting.
There are 3 factions in a very vast world it has commerce, pvp, pve mining and player VS AI.
It has faction based events like defend the capitol ship.
It's a slower paced game, fairly relaxing and easy to get into.
Devs are updating this and appear to be moving away from the old model and pushing vr and the quest option.
It's surprisingly good for quest gfx wise and size wise.
If your into Sci fi then this is definitely your game.
I have some videos up on slightlymad79 YouTube

If you do purchase some of the controls need to be manually set like target nearest enemy as they were not made for quest, you also need to raise your floor level in boundary options to your Knees if your playing seated or you will not be seated in the cockpit correctly.
I've been waiting for a true Free roaming game, the space to explore is ridiculous, the flight controls are easy and fun, combat is very intense.
This is as close to Elite as I can find on standalone.
There is also a certain charm to a game 2 decades old.
