Great platformer

I really enjoyed this game. Level design was fun and snappy. I hold the same critiques as others regarding camera angles, like looking down or sideways too much. I played it on easy mode which gives plenty of chances to clear the stage.

Amazing game design but…

Absolutely love how this game is made — the characters are super cool, the level design is creative, and everything is beautifully textured and animated. Collecting the assets is genuinely fun, and the game pulls you in from the very beginning with its immersive feel.

One big improvement would be the camera system. If it followed the character more closely, like in Lucky’s Tale, it would be a lot easier to stay connected to Ven. Right now, the camera often pulls too far back or shifts angles unpredictably, which makes it hard to see where the character is and judge jumps accurately. It’s easy to feel detached because of the perspective changes, and I find myself failing sometimes simply due to those awkward camera angles.

That said, the difficulty so far feels balanced. The first few levels are very manageable and enjoyable to play through.

BEST PLATFORMER ON QUEST STORE!

This is by far the BEST platformer available on the Quest Store…

Yes, it’s BETTER than Max Mustard… For a variety of reasons.

1) This game is challenging (To me, this is a GOOD thing. I always love a good challenge)

2) The environments and levels are interesting and quite varied. For example, snow areas, factory areas, cave areas etc…

3) Gameplay itself is great, feels AAA. Everything feels clean and smooth and works well.

4) Great Voice acting.

The only negative in my opinion is that the backgrounds of the levels are sort of 2d wallpaperish and not full 3D HD renders. This breaks immersion a bit.

A decent game that quickly frustrates

A VR third-person platforming game in which you control Ven the protagonist as if you are a higher power. The game relies on a fixed third person perspective that doesn't pan with the player unless you advance in the level. The camera is rotatable, but it doesn't rotate with the character at a fixed point. You guide Ven through various levels attacking enemies that lack variation. Going from A to B in super long levels isn't enough, as you are also tasked to save all the mini dog things, break all of the boxes along the way and to collect all of the relics, which are essentially little gems scattered around the course and in boxes. Some of them are very well hidden.

I think the game itself shows promise on a genre that isn't typically designed for VR and the third person view is an adequate solution. However, nothing about this game is truly exemplary. The protagonist has voice lines that really only activate when you die and then resurrect. The difficulty of the platforming itself isn't hard at all, with a circle referencing where your character will land and it is extremely easy to accumulate extra lives. The game suddenly spikes in difficulty, not in skill but in sheer diminishing controls.

The truth about this game is that if it were released on PC or Console it would be embarrassing to play. Nothing about the game truly uses VR effectively with the exception of the level select screen, which works well but seems to be composed of premade assets. It's unimaginative and uninspiring. And although I am nearly done with the game, nothing makes me excited to go back to it and test my platforming prowess. Especially with a part of the game that is insanely hard and unnecessary: lobbing grenades at rockets that propel when above you. It's awful, and turned me off from finishing the game.

I would exercise caution if the game wasn't on a steep discount and would look for alternatives. See if Moss, Lucky's Tale, Max Mustard or even No More Rainbows tickles your fancy.

Underrated 3rd person platforming

An underrated gem I rarely see mentioned. If you like more traditional 3rd person platforming, then give Ven a try. It's in the same vein as Moss or Max Mustard though a bit harder than both of those. Visually the main course looks very nice and has lots of diverse environments and obstacles, but could use an update to increase resolution for the newer Quests. Gameplay is great too, and I appreciate how they changed up the platforming mechanics and difficulty the further you go. Expect to dedicate multiple attempts for some of the harder sections, but thankfully there are generous amounts of checkpoints. In contrast to that generosity, it also possess a limited life system and while I never felt pressured by it on Normal difficulty, I could see some people feeling frustrated if they struggle with platformers and need to reset a lot.
