I expected this to be nothing special but... I admit I'm enjoying it A LOT!! It's very fun, just what I was looking for arcade action. Very recommended!!!
The game was a fun enough implementation of rails shooter mechanics until I reached the train, I cannot bend low enough to dodge. As such I'm forced to give this 3 stars as I could not find a workaround.
Feels *great* once you get a feel for the flow of combat and movement. The soundtrack is *sick* and adds a ton of extra 'something' to the feel of blocking bullets, firing off a few shots in return, and then blocking and slicing your way through a line of sword fighters.
This game rocks.
--edit: reply to dev question about things that could be improved for a 5-star rating--
The flow of combat is already fun enough to keep replaying the game, but it could be improved by adding an on-screen indicator guiding them towards 'the action' whenever:
A) the player is facing away from an enemy about to fire a blockable 'red' bullet
or
B) the player isn't facing enemies, but enemies are alive in the area
or
C) the player isn't facing the 'go to next area' marker.
Maybe the indicator would be an small marker at the edge of the player's view pointing in the right direction.
At the moment, the flow of combat feels like it slows down when I have to stop and look all around to search for live enemies or an 'go forward' item to grapple onto, or a box to slash.
Another, but much smaller issue: I think parts where the player needs to use the sword to slash a box (or series of boxes) placed in the middle of their path in odd spots (like in the train station) feel slightly awkward and might be better as 'shoot to advance' targets -- maybe just floating semi-transparent 'shoot to move forward' arrows floating in the air might work -- as if the player were wearing AR glasses to help them navigate.
I loved Time Crisis growing up and this totally is pulling those feels back. I’m in love.
