Damage system is absolutely terrible don't waste you're money 🙄💔
1.0 was such a disappointment with all the bugs but it's getting better now.
Solid game by now
there is absolutely nothing good to say about this game. every time you land a hit you have a major lag spike. The graphics are trash compared to thrill of the fight 1 and every time you land a hit it doesn't matter how hard you strike it only matters how much your opponent swung before hand; you throw any amount of force at your opponent and they do not flinch, but rather swing at you with less force themselves and hit you twice as hard. Even the locomotion is terrible; retreating or using footwork is not an option as it isn't beneficial at all. Head movement is the best way to hit and not get hit, right? As soon as you step out of your tiny little circle of a safe area, everything turns dark except for said tiny circle, and you can't walk or block while your opponent can and will punch the $h!t out of you. Nothing is fun or realistic about this game. The coach from the first game is in this second game, and he has dialogue, a voice, and a personality which are all significantly annoying.
they ruined the damage system really bad. before it was okay, and now it's worse than ever. First of all, before i would 1v1 with my friend and the damage was fine. but now, i counter his punches, hit him directly in the face (body as well), and not even a single stun, or blackout. But when bro tries to horribly dodge and finally lands his punch, he somehow stuns me EVEN WHEN I DODGED IT. blocking is fine, but fix the damage system, I'm tired of being knocked down FOR NO REASON. in fact, when my friend went afk, i hit him with a weak hook and he went down instantly, that's awful.
Thrill of the fight is why I own a quest. I play it three times a week. I was excited to see an improved version. What I got instead was a game like every other boxing game, nowhere near TotF. I felt like the boxers were so close to me they would be inside me. Punches came out of nowhere. I couldn’t get a decent hit in. Mind you, I complete the first one every time I play it. It made boxing a fun but challenging game. This was simply frustrating. This is before I mention the missing pass through, the rigid ring size (or the option to play a very frustrating standing still mode). What a shame. Had they simply added some things to the basis of the first game, maybe corner banter , maybe Nick names instead of red corner I would have been happy.
Im trying to take this game with a grain of salt since its Early Access, but the game is seriously flawed in its current state. Spammer-filled lobbies, screwy-boundaries, so many glitched punches, and an absolutely terrible damage system are the main flaws - and trust me exploiters take full advantage of all the games obvious flaws. The boundary system for people using their joysticks is just atrocious - you will be standing in one spot the whole time and it will suddenly say “return to your boundary” even though you havent moved. Half the punches you throw glitch, even with my Pro controllers that have self-tracking. Spammers get rewarded in this damage system, and it really has me questioning the damage system because some really ugly spam punches have knocked me out. And then you can throw as hard as you can and connect clean to the jaw multiple times, and theyll just eat it all day long. If your tall, you are also at a severe disadvantage as body shots somehow do more damage than shots to the jaw. Seems like they catered to the little kids who cant fight with the sacrifice being authenticity.
I played totf1 for years and years and loved everything about that game and it was my go-to game to play whenever I was bored. I trust the main developer Ian, idk how much I trust Halfbrick and their teams involvement, but I know Ian is genuine about his work and is determined to continuously improve the game, but as of now I am disappointed in how unauthentic the game feels and quite frankly it feels like a step backwards from the first - even with as simple as things as the graphics. Hopefully, with future updates the game will feel more like a step forward and I will be able to update this review to 5 stars.
UPDATE: Game is now fully released, campaign is just as buggy as multiplayer. Real shame how this game has somehow declined to the level its competition - when years ago it was miles better than anything out there.
