A caged court in the middle of a New York block. Chain link on four sides, murals on the handball wall, brownstones and fire escapes over the fence, traffic on the street and pigeons on the rail. Pick up a ball and shoot.

Every ball is real. A regulation basketball on a regulation 3.05 m rim, with a bounce measured against the real thing - dropped from 1.8 m it comes back to 1.18 m, the same as a ball on a real court. Catch the front of the rim and it rattles. Bank it off the square and it drops.

Seven balls: the one at your feet and six on the rack by the fence, in six colours. Grab one in your hand or point and pull it in from across the court. Shoot until your arm aches. Any ball that ends up over the fence finds its own way back to the rack, and one button returns all of them.

No timer, no score to chase, no crowd. Just a court, a ball and the sound of the neighbourhood.
