I love it

I can't believe how low this game is rated. It plays like a old rpg game. It's not a super long experience but man is it fun. I keep finding myself playing it for the arena mode now that I've beaten it. If you're thinking about buying it, do it.

REEEEALLLYY GOOD FOUNDATION!

I hope they build on this in a sequel. This is the closest thing to a Skyrim like game on the quest 2. Just needs a little more. Everything in here is really good!! I love this game . Hope this studio really builds on this more.

Decent little RPG with good gameplay

I played for the first time for an hour this evening. Initially, I was underwhelmed, particularly by the 2d pixelated NPCs and monsters, but something about the atmosphere, fighting mechanics, and spells, kept me playing a bit longer. The first quest, killing some rats in a cellar, was quite cool, and made me realise that both the game mechanics, sound, and music, actually made for a moderately challenging and enjoyable experience. The first dungeon had a degree of challenge, although I did find that there were too many health and mana chests. I was about to put it away for now, when I got the first main dungeon quest, beneath an old church, and having completed that, I have to say that I really enjoyed it, and also have a much better idea about what the game is like. The atmosphere, while somewhat over the top, is actually excellently done, and the sounds, perhaps a bit cliched, and also over the top, are also cleverly designed and work really well together. The enemies somehow manage to be sufficiently convincing, despite being flat 2d pixels that advance towards you, and explode into 'gibs' and bones in a way that is quite satisfying, although perhaps that could have been made a little more gory. And the game is reasonably fast paced which helps get you a bit into the 'zone', almost like an old 'boomer shooter' does, although at this stage it certainly is not that. It's fun, and the $10 price tag is probably fair. I got access via the meta quest + subscription, and this is one I will almost certainly pick up on sale.

Lackluster

This game is traditional rpg in first person, having choice for melee combat or casting various spells. Although it's my favorite genre and i like these types of games, this one was pretty mediocre.

What i liked was characters and monsters with nice pixel art, combined with 3d world this style reminded me 90s game, something like The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall. Game has nice monster variety and amount of spells to choose from. Drawing symbol to use each element of spell was nice touch and you can also cast them from your book if you forgot the symbol for spell you want. Music and sfx was okay but nothing amazing.

Game was pretty short in length and world felt small. Although you can get different weapons than your usual sword, they're really just timed buffs and you revert back after certain time. I would have wanted weapons with different stats, armor pieces etc. There's not much variety in combat and it felt quite boring, you can find treasure chests but most of time those had health and mana potions. Voice acting was pretty bad, i understand budget is limited but perhaps text dialogue would have been better option. Some effects made game slow down even in quest 3 so it could have used better optimization.

Game also has arena mode but there's not any incentive playing it except challenging yourself. I think there's a good base game here for improvement and if there was sequel fixing these issues and adding more content i'd be interested checking it out. Stones Of Harlath can still be entertaining with its flaws but i find it hard to recommend.
