What an awesome little game! You are piloting a small just to transport cargo containers. Basically a cross between a tug boat and a forklift, but in zero gravity with space shuttle controls. Your left stick thrusts you forward and backwards and strafes up, down, left and right, while the right stick controls your pitch and rotation. You line up the ship with docking points on the containers and smoothly dock with them for transport. It's a little disorienting at first but I was surprised how fast it "clicks" and it becomes more a matter of mastering the controls and controlling your momentum in zero-g to be as fast and smooth at your job as possible.
And the game is great at making this feel like your job (just a very fun one), with the ship's cockpit designed to feel like an old school (but in the future/space- think of the mining ships from the Alien movies) piece of equipment.
An excellent "blue collar, wipe the sweat and git 'er done country rock meets tripping through the cosmos soundtrack" and funny, job orientation live action training videos really help to sell the feel.
Addicting, fun and extremely satisfying to play and improve your skills with leaderboards and weekly challenges, and I felt compelled to write this recommendation on the chance that it helps anyone get introduced to it.
I’m pretty smitten by these kinds of games - single player, simple graphics, good music kind of games. The way you can just be fully immersed and chill out in another world. I get the same vibe from DigVR which also has 2 virtual joysticks to control movement.
If you are nerdy like me and want to hone your zero gravity flying skills then Space Docker VR is for you!
Day 1: Totally unable to control the vehicle.
Day 2: Still totally unable to take a proper turn.
Day 3: Finally got the grasp and started playing.
I enjoyed a lot the flying mechanics and found the docking pretty interesting. But thats until i reached the first "time trial" level.. After that, MAN I was hooked.
I found my self floating in space, working for what it was supposed to be done, listening to some FANTASTIC guitar solo tunes that remind me of Pink Floyd and thinking "Oh man! Thats my dream job!!!" I'm a sucker for some GOOD music in video games and I'm a musician myself. I havent completed any more levels cause I felt the urge to write this review. I cant really write enough cause only someone who loves pink floyd and space can trully understand how AWESOME it felt. I had my most WOW moment in my vr gaming experience playing this gem that you should totally buy blindfolded!!!
DEVS! If you read this, please!!! We need more of this Pink Floydish psychedelic rock/blues tunes!!
Excellent work!!!
Bravo!!!
When I first played this a giant grin plastered over my face. The gameplay and cockpit and the design of this game are very rewarding.
It’s very relaxing to play and quickly becomes addictive.
The graphics, levels, gameplay, design and music are all great.
It’s easily one of the most rewarding experiences on VR.
If you like space or relaxing puzzlers you’ll enjoy it.
I hope the devs are working on a sequel, and considering expand this world.
There space navigation itself is so satisfying and rewarding (ability to strafe) it becomes a real thrill piloting your ship. There’s so much potential. I’d like to have missions - maybe an open world. Pick up or transport people. Navigate between missions by flying there. A story etc. even multiplayer (work together to fix a ship or something). All with the same core gameplay mechanic - Newtonian physics in a strafing space docker
And please more levels!
What a great game! Controls are spot on, skill curve is rewarding, and there's plenty to come back to and try and improve scores. But also you can just sit back (recommend playing in an office chair) and relax and move some crates around, or search for unlockables.
Two things I'd love to see:
Coop mode. Give each player distinct abilities, or can each only move a certain type of crate but need to work together to free them. Lots of opportunities here.
And a push throttle (like a plane) for controlling speed. I find I often grab the stick in the wrong position and can't physically tilt the speed stick back enough to slow down or reverse.
Other than that this is a superbly put together game, great simplistic graphics on the quest that work well, and all the controls feel great to interact with. Well done devs! Please continue adding to this game.
This game is challenging and extremely fun, it’s to bad there isn’t an option for multi player or the ability to upgrade the ship with better boosters and a different docking configuration that’s more visually direct
This game deserves 5 stars after the boss told me I might as well stay till my next shift starts because everyone else finished and went home hours ago but I was still doing a great job! It made me laugh and sorry for myself at the same time
