Good shooting mechanics. Solid Game

The game itself is very good. I finished all assessments and it would not unlock the last four rifles. The gambling RNG is very bad and I suspect the developer coded the game so the player loses more often than not. I tracked the gambling game, which cards were dealt to me and the dealer. I also tracked the number of face cards and frequency which they appeared, and statistically there is no way that they dealer could be winning so many times with out the help of some pre programmed algorithm. So one star if it gets fixed, if there is going to ever be another update.

I am updating the review to three stars, because the dev did respond. I did unlock the new guns by starting a new game plus. I have experience playing black jack, so I know how to play the game. It just seems to me that Face cards are drawn more often than not. There will be times that the dealer just so coincidently, gets face cards and beats my by one or two. I quite playing the simplejack.
I really like the game, I just do not think the RNG is be randomized enough for the black jack game.

Update: Came back to the game after the update and guns are now unlocking. Also now I understand that Black Jack game is using one deck. Updated to 5 stars. Love the new update.

Hi there.

It's great to hear that you find the game overall to be very good.

Regarding rifle unlocks - this has been fixed.

There was one very rare bug discovered in the update system of the previous version of the game - v1021. This has been fixed in v1047 with the Tactical Toolset update.

This bug affected a very small number of legacy savestates, when upgrading to v1021 from even earlier versions. The update system failed to unlock the newly-added weapons for a very small subset of players, if their savestate had very specific criteria in it.

In all cases that this was reported to us, via support email, we manually patched users save files to ensure they could continue without starting a new game. The issue was then thoroughly investigated and fixed. We've even added an extra savestate validation tool to the game (to automatically detect missing unlocks and fix them, every time the game starts) to ensure it can not happen again.

All weapons should reliably unlock when upgrading from any previous version of the game. There should never be any weapons that cannot unlock. Without exceptions. Please see the Tactical Toolset update developer post for full details.

We've also added unlock tips to the equipment terminal, to better communicate when/how each weapon should unlock. In several cases we received reports that weapons did not unlock, when the unlock criteria simply had not yet been met (in those cases it wasn't a bug).

In the very unlikely event that you are still experiencing unlock issues, please email our support address - concreteboxvr@gmail.com - so we can investigate it and get you up and running. Feel free to reach out with general questions also, we are happy to help!

Regarding the SimpleJack gambling minigame - the code was fully reviewed during the most recent update, and I can confirm that there is nothing in there that gives the dealer any advantage. It deals completely randomly, from a standard deck of 52 cards - of which 16 are face cards & aces (almost a third).

It's expected to see at least one face card or ace per game (4+ cards are dealt). But, because the deal is fully random, it's possible that every card dealt is a face card, or none at all. The code that deals the cards is blind to the type of card, it just picks a random slot in the deck and deals card from it.

Sadly not possible to make this code any more random than it already is, there really isn't anything happening in there that chooses cards by value. It's fully and completely random.

It is maximum randomness.

That said, it has been noted that this minigame can feel overly punishing at times, with bad luck streaks having no cap on the amount of in-game currency the player can lose, yet the dealer only has limited funds to win (so good luck streaks can't run). I will consider possible ways to reduce the frustration this minigame can cause, as Shotwood aims to be a fun experience and these frustrating moments can really ruin that.

SimpleJack does have a free mode, in which you can play without risking any credits. Also, as of the most recent update, the SimpleJack minigame is now completely optional. It's possible to fully 100% complete Shotwood ever without playing this minigame. The shooting challenges, various modes, and other minigames are a much more dependable (and often more enjoyable) way to earn credits in the game.

Thank you for playing Shotwood, and have fun in there!

Game is a hoot

Ok. It’s not 5 stars like say metro awakening, but it’s easy to play, I’m enjoying the h e double hockey sticks out of it. It has teleport and smooth locomotion, it has a story that takes itself over the top seriously. The food dispenser is a must stop for sustenance! I didn’t think shooting “pop-up” targets like this could be fun. Boy was I wrong. Two big thumbs up from this guy

Great!

My new fav shooting game! Simple but solid and very entertaining. And chopping balloons is kind of exercise up there with paid fitness exercise apps. Kudos to game producers!
