I am not much of a gamer. FPS and games where you have to spend hours crafting things is not something I enjoy. Red Matter 2 (I did not play Red Matter 1) hits every checkmark for me. It is visually stunning. The details down to reflections of items are so detailed. The puzzles are fun and for about 2/3 of the game are solvable with a normal human mind. lol I needed to get help from YT. But that makes it fun for me. If I am stuck for more than an hour I will look for help and then the "ahhhhh that's how you do it" is enjoyable too. Some of the things that make it difficult is the accuracy of the gun, the jetpack takes time to get used too, and it is tedious that you have to use it to go up a tiny step. Some of the puzzles that require you to accomplish a skill can be hard too as you have to be precise and that can get tedious. But it is fun. And I also enjoy the way you can sometimes solve a puzzle more than one way with the things round you. It is cool to look around a room like a normal person and try to figure out how you can accomplish something by using a number of things in the room. And on top of all that, it is a good story. They can do so many spin-offs with this. I am looking forward to more from these developers. (note: I did find a glitch in one part of the game where there was a battery charger in a drawer. I picked it up and dropped it on accident, and it just disappeared. So I had to restart from the previous save.)
Puzzles are actually rewarding, varied and unique. Graphics are amazing for standalone, story is intriguing, its a cool game.
After playing the first game I was instantly hooked. Then I played this game and I was instantly blown away by how much more there is to this game.
I am new to VR but even then this game is just incredible! The shadows, the quality of the graphics, the physics, just everything. The game feels so well done, if other games are even half this good I’m stoked. It truly feels like your there in the game
Red Matter 2 improved on physically EVERYTHING from the original. The story was easier to understand, the gameplay was less repetitive and the puzzles were much less frustrating. However, I will say that some of the puzzles were definitely annoying and instead of making me feel proud of solving them, I just felt a sense of “finally, I can move on.”
Example: in the O2 refill room, once you kill the robots and make your way down, you find a battery in the back of a radio by looking on the back. Smart. But when I power the elevator, I need another battery to power the door. So I try to open the electric heater thinking it was the same (it was not). Turns out you have to use the grabbers to pull the battery off the elevator and back towards . Took me 30 minutes to figure out as I play standing and I grab everything manually to add to the fun. I wouldn’t have figured this out had I not randomly found it while walking through for the fifth time.
There were a few other puzzles like this, but other than that I had tons of fun beating it. I hope that if they continue the series (whether under another character or maybe as a prequel), they try to make less puzzles depending on mechanics that are entirely optional or unused to that point, especially considering I was 2/3 done with the game then. Otherwise, I loved the game and hope to see more.
I just finished Red Matter 2 tonight. Graphically, this is one of the best looking games on the Quest 3 that I’ve come across. It’s a a single player adventure game that has players solving puzzles and moving through the linear storyline. The story is solid but not amazing. It’s a puzzle game with a decent amount of first person shooter style gun play. There some fun drones that you control as well. The puzzles are interesting and very from easy to hard enough to have me running to YouTube for help .Where it excels is atmosphere and graphics.
