When this launched it was fun but had issues that I assumed would be fixed. Instead we're 6 months past release and the game still feels unfinished. No idea on how to get other chair upgrades, the paid upgrades are maxed out and no matter what the factory always has only one route. I expected more from the devs.
Initial review:
Really great roguelike that takes a new approach on movement mechanics. The wheelchair survivor aspect makes this both a unique approach for the genre and presents challenges that most experienced vr garners may have not encountered.
Learning to control the chair takes some practice, and more than a few times you'll have to start a new run because of the limitations in your mobility. It would be nice if there was an option to only require one controller to reach top movement speed, as currently you need two.
The tutorial could use some work as it doesn't fully explain the mechanics, and there's a lot you'll have to figure out on the fly. For instance, I didn't know I could use the trigger to activate a screen and open a door, when the red indicator line was active; that was a facepalm moment when it finally opened.
It would have also been good to have a rundown of how the upgrade system works for the chair, when abilities unlock - I still don't know what I did to unlock the time freeze ability and haven't gotten anything new since - and how to get other abilities like the arm, ai hack and turrets.
There's a nice variety of weapons and you can find them out in the wild too, this actually makes you think on how you want to spend what you bring back each run. I started with a few weapon upgrades and then maxed out the chair, even found a place to get some grenades - nice touch adding this into the middle of a run, making players spend even more wisely.
The flick to reload mechanic is a nice touch, but it would be great to make it more immersive and add a manual reload option.
Another controller thing to fix would be the ability to reset position. Currently it's far too easy to make a mistake and should be a more pronounced action so you don't accidentally reset during a tense moment.
There are bugs so heads up. On all runs so far, if you take similar routes, you'll find enemies who are stuck in the same wall or those who ignore you until its too late for them. Other issues include the assistant voice starting off at a normal level, then become imperceptible. No settings were changed, just couldn't hear it anymore. Also no matter what, turning off the controller assistance doesn't seem to do anything.
Fun game, and definitely want to see more.
I love the idea of this. I quite enjoyed it until I felt nauseous too. It really needs some more comfort settings, for me at least. Maybe a heads up display to show which way the wheelchair is facing could help. I tried to play in an office chair and also standing up. Neither worked for me unfortunately. The other option would be to hide the chair totally, so which ever way you physically turn the chair does too.
Possibly the game could have a simpler control interface as an option too. I get the feeling if I could carry on a bit more I may get more used to it and it wouldn’t be such an issue. The trouble is I can’t.
I am somewhat torn with how to rate it. Just because I can’t play it, I can’t give it a really low rating. On the other hand, as I can’t, I can’t give it a high rating either. So a three out of five seems appropriate really. I really don’t like refunding l, but will have to do so. I wish everyone who was involved with the game all the best. If there is a demo available in the future I may well give it another try too.
Saw in another review that there was no toggle grip, and reached out to devs a couple different times with no response. To me it's a bit of a deal breaker on games like this, especially when you're basically required to hold the grip down the entire time if there's no toggle. The game was on sale so having seen it'd been updated a couple of times I took a gamble and bought it. Glad to confirm there is grip toggle. This game is really cool. Worth your time and money - 5 stars!! :)
I’ve wanted this game since I saw it coming and I really enjoy it. The controls are actually very cool and it’s a nice difference from everything else that out there. They did a good job and don’t listed to the reviews about the controls being off. It’s a fun roguelike with a cool upgrade system to unlock and buy new guns and all sorts of new attachments to put on them. You can also upgrade your wheelchair, super cool!! Good job with this one, looking forward to more content, maybe a skill tree and deeper leveling system for the character.
Great game!!
Please add head gaze turning controls so I can use roto vr..it would be ideal for roto vr.....that would be awesome if you could get native rotovr implementation..i see bhaptics been added, awesome, protube would be great as well but head turning option instead of stick pleeeeease
