Meta games don't exactly do narrative and heart in spades. This game is different, and Meta Store needs to do a better job in showcasing games like this.
The game is a platformer, similar to Moss. It is hand painted, and it shows with how vibrant and artistic it looks. The score is moving, but for me, it's the messaging of the game that stands out from the rest.
You control a 'little monster' who is emotionally connected to you. The character is an avatar for our own negative emotions like fear and anxiety, and the game tasks us to help our character through these complex feelings. This is ideal for kids as it helps them understand how to control their negative thoughts and regulate their emotions. Even for an adult like me I found it heartwarming.
There isn't a game out there that does this for kids, so why is it Meta makes this so hard to find? I found out about the game on a comment on a random YT video. Meta Store needs to do better showcasing games like this!
Everytime i die, the reload screen keeps going and never restarts so i have to close the game each time.
My Monsters stands out as a work of art apart: you can feel the inspiration of MOSS, but never copy it.
This is a unique vision, a living VR diorama where each setting is hand-painted and overflowing with visual poetry.
You play as a hero who teams up with Moti, a small, fragile creature, and this relationship brings a rare emotional depth.
Exploration, puzzles, and combat intertwine naturally, with each level introducing a new mechanic that makes you want to move forward.
The game successfully combines challenge and contemplation, with a dreamlike universe that borders on a coming-of-age tale.
The demo had already impressed me with its emotional intensity, and with the full release, everything suggests that we have a must-have future in the VR catalog, capable of reaching both players seeking adventure and those seeking emotion.
A diorama game the way we love VR, with fun gameplay, puzzles, exploration, and combat!
Complete, beautiful, the first episode in a long series? We can only hope so!
Adorable...just adorable
Yes
I'm a fan of this developer's game UNBINARY and I've been looking forward to seeing what they come up with next.
The game is beautiful! I spent some time just gazing around at each environment since there are so many interesting little details. I really like the story so far.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the full release turns out.
This is clearly inspired by Moss and it borrows much of its gameplay design. As a fan of Moss I like the concept, but the execution here is a problem.
The character has a strange "floaty" jump. A quick tap of the jump button or a long press both produce the same height. The jump seems slow, like the character has no weight. For people used to playing platform games this is going to feel odd.
If the combat starts out at the same difficulty level as the demo it's going to frustrate many gamers who aren't used to playing this style of game. I suspect the demographic who will buy My Monsters will be primarily casual gamers who won't be expecting to get into a battle like this so early in the game. The combat should start off a little less difficult to ease newcomers into it. Maybe add Moss's enemy grab feature so you can keep them away?
During that first battle I hit a glitch where my character would no longer attack. It was frozen. I could still move it around but the legs weren't animated. After I got killed and respawned it was fine.
At several points in the game I was unsure how to proceed, and not because I got stuck by a puzzle.
Right at the beginning there was a little card saying "Press X to continue". Because of the style of the font and the small size of the card the X looked like an A. I spent a frustrating minute or so pressing the A button while standing in different places thinking I had to be somewhere special to proceed. Eventually I pressed every button and found out it was X. I leaned down close towards the card and saw that it was indeed an X and not an A. 😁
Some of the paths aren't clear and while fumbling through them I got stuck in the scenery a few times. Once that killed my character.
My Monsters has the potential to be a very nice game but it needs more work on the character control so it feels like a solid platformer.
It also needs a clearer tutorial. For example the first time I tried to open the inventory I couldn't see it because I didn't know it came out of the orb and I had my hands down.
And of course it needs bug fixing, but that's to be expected in a pre release demo.
