Cyber Engineer, Nyla, and her sister, Linh, developed a way to harness the immense processing power of the human brain to create the ultimate supercomputer. Employed by Forward Industries, they managed to transfer human consciousness to the digital space. But after trying to back out of the project, things took an unexpected turn. Held against their will, Nyla finds herself in a situation that forces her to use the technology in the very way she feared it would be.

Human Within combines an original branching storyline with video game playability. Its unique blend of storytelling and gameplay offers players a one-of-a-kind interactive experience. Technical features include:

USER INVOLVEMENT: Experiencing the story from Linh's consciousness within a virtual internet space provides a way to observe the events taking place and have a level of participation unlike anything else.

POINT CLOUD INTERACTIVITY: These sequences serve as pace-breaking moments where users engage with the story even further, bringing a new degree of interactivity to the mix.

CHOICE AND CONSEQUENCE: At key moments in the story events are defined by the user's choices. These moments define how events unfolded in the past and determine how it all ends in the present.

STYLE VARIETY: The story is told using a combination of three distinct visual styles: The Internet Space blending 2D film and 3D graphics, Flashback Scenes with interactive 360 degree stereo film, and Point Cloud recreations with 6DoF 3D environments.

A fun interactive movie

This game is essentially an interactive movie. 90% of it is watching 3D VR video, and 10% is completing short puzzles and interactive tasks. As long as you know going into this going into the game and are okay with it, it's a great, polished experience. As of 3/25/25, 1400 players started playing the game and 406 finished it (according to the in-game achievement system). Give it a try! 👍🏻🎉

Intense and visually impressive

I'm a developer, though not VR but looking. Having said that, I have been conceptually banging my head off how to immerse a player into a realistic story where the player does not feel like he is being given "busy work".
I'm 71 years old and remember a silly TV cartoon called Winky Dink where the child had to put a cellophane sheet over the TV screen and draw over the dotted lines to help Wink Dink escape a villain. Winky Dink came out in 1953 . Even with the incredible technological advancements, immersion VR is still Winky Dink!

Having said that, this is still an incredible experience. It is probably close to the best we can expect at present. With dynamic integration of AI characters, that is all going to change, soon!

Great Interactive Narrative Game

Human Within is an interactive narrative game -- the emphasis is on the narrative, but there's lot of interaction, including user choices which determine how the narrative proceeds.

I've only played partway through the game, but the story is gripping and I really care what happens to the two main characters.
The one flaw I originally found in the game is that when I was offered a choice, I couldn't figure out how to indicate what choice wanted to make. I was going to give the game an unfavorable review, but I decided to contact the developers first. Here's how they explained things to me.

When you have a choice to make, you see a brief text describing the default choice and some moving arrows. If you look in the direction that arrows point, you'll see what the alternate choice is. If you want the alternate choice, keep looking at the alternate, and the game will confirm your choice (no buttons to press). If you want the default, just look in the other direction.

There's a brief timer to make your choice, but every time you look in the direction of one of the choices, the timer resets.

If you mess up, no problem. Just hit the game menu button on the left controller and choose to restart the current scene.

The developers should have explained all this in the game, but they tell me that they're going to add a brief tutorial in an update explaining how to make choices.

Hi David, happy to hear we were able to help on this front. Additionally, the update with said tutorial has been pushed to the live version. Let us know if it's clear enough or if you have any other feedback! :)

No Choices or Choose/Hidden Door Glitch

I've come to the "choice" first in the game, now in the menu option portion in the game, and there's nothing on the controllers that allows any option but whatever the game does. I've attempted it twice, and there's no way to choose anything other than what the game decides. During the timer for which to make a choice, (I first) missed the timer, so the game played out; second time... I hit every available button on the controllers before the timer expired, and I got the same game result. I played to the second menu item for making a choice or choosing a new path in the game... and no buttons actives a change in the game. Nothing is worth finding the thief three times, and going through the frustration of repeating the same gameplay three times... it is torture... It's not a game, and it's definitely not any fun! Second, I inspected every inch of the room with the "hidden door," and it never revealed itself... never! I inspected every single inch; under cabinets, behind every curtain and up and down every single wall! I spend way too much time there. It was definitely a glitch there. All these accounted... this game totally sucks to the highest hell. This was some joke of a game, huh? I'd absolutely hate opening it up again unless the developers have a specific, detailed explanation of what you did. How do options or choosing become part of the game, and what button(s) operate that function before the timer expires? I totally hate your game. I really hope I explained myself and we are clear! Thank you for your support! I personally believe that you experimented on me with this game, and you charged me for your failure!

Hey LeviAndrewLane, we're sorry to hear you did not enjoy your initial playthrough of Human Within, but we would very much like to help address the challenges you experienced with the Choice Moments and Point Cloud exploration. We just released an update that provides a tutorial on how the choice mechanic works. Here is an explanation to help you out...

When the choice UI appears, there is no button to press on the controller. Instead, the choice is made by holding your gaze in the direction of the character the choice is based on. Under the timer meter, <<<< and >>>> arrows indicate the direction of the other choice. By turning your head in the indicated direction you can see what the other option is.

Making a choice is done by looking at a character until the timer completely fills in. While the timer is short, you can look back and forth between the options to reset the timer each time.

For the Point Cloud room with the hidden door, it would seem that you may have encountered a bug. When searching the room, were you looking at things and surfaces or were you pointing at them with the controller, too? The hidden door should become highlighted when pointing the controller at it. We will investigate it on our end to see if there is a bug with it. We hope this helps.

You can reach out to us at emails@signalspace.ca anytime, if you would like to know more.
