At the release of this game I bought it because I love strategy games and retrofuturistic themes, but the reprojection and the grabing mechanic were awlful. Now with the updates and the halloween sales I decided to give it a try. The reprojection is still a issue and the grabing mechanic is still terrible but there is an alternative that makes the game playable (equivalent to point and click). After some tries I started enjoing the roguelike aspects, the variety of mechs and items that makes the game very engaging and fun. In the end is a flatscreen port but at least it brings more variety to the VR catalog.
I’m giving it 4 ⭐️s because it has the foundation to be a great little rogue-lite strategy game but at the pace update’s are coming it’s not looking good, the core gameplay mechanic is grab units to move and attack, grab units to move behind cover, to use abilities etc etc, you can’t do that when that mechanic has 2 bindings on it, it’s also grab to move map around play space, to rotate world, it’s just really broken right now, on top of that your hand has to be so close to the unit to try and grab it and that’s if it even registers your hand in the first place, that or you accidentally grab the map, so frustrating, so basically when you lose it’s not because you’re not good or it’s too hard, you loose because it doesn’t work, I just played 2 hours and lost 4 times to buggy controls, bums me out.
Definitely heading in the right direction, still missing heads of the workers, but grabbing the units is alot better since the update.if your sitting on the wall thinking of purchasing....its worth it to be honest, kinda wish people would change there stars to reflect the changes
Update after latest patch: The devs kept working. Read the patch notes for details, but safe to say, the game seems to run about the same, though, luckily improvements have been made to the smoothness and ease of gameplay.
Graphically it is still an uneven mess with HEADLESS soldiers roaming around base and pallets lifting themselves into the air.
Devs! Work on how it looks now! If the base has signs written in the dirt, I obviously don’t need immersion breaking ui floating around above them, with the exact same text!
I do play this game more than any other, so it is definitely fun! Oh, and the first boss is bugged now, invisible and unmoving.
Looking forward to patch 2! Keep up the good work!
Original review: Why release the game in this state?
This reminds me of the Hitman release, eventually Hitman got fixed and is now a fun game to play.
That said, Grit and Valor suffers from the same lazy problems that still plague Hitman: Flat screens with story elements and options floating around in a black void.
When starting the game up, it becomes clear that this is a lazy port, and probably not tested to well, with tons of little, annoying bugs.
The graphics are simply not optimized for the Q3. A quick tweak on the Quest Games Optimizer reveals how good this game could run. Sad.
Did they run out of money to work on this?
Will they release some fixes to make it less broken like Hitman?
Or simply give up, like Civ7?
We will see.
The four stars are for the core gameplay, and the potential of this version of the game.
Dev to do list:
Fix frame stutters, up graphical resolution, get hand tracking working and PUT HEADS ON THE LITTLE SOLDIERS AT THE HQ!!!
It was a strategy game that looked very appealing, but unfortunately, when the game was released, it was almost unplayable. The controls/handling were unnatural, and the game had performance issues. However, after the patch was released, it got much better. It became easier to pick up and manipulate characters, and the gameplay is very enjoyable. With a little more refinement, this could be a must-play VR strategy game.
Purchased this game as a dev on YouTube stated that it had all updates and was running better....it ain't, heads missing from the menu part, janky controls, when's the actual update happening as its over a month and nothing.please give it the update it needs to be a great game
