Frustrating as heck.

I want this to be a good game, but so far, it's just a frustrating game with horrible physics. I was trying to do the tutorial where it tells you to pick up the gear and place it on the highlighted spindle. The highlight was on a wall with no spindle. I turned around to see if i missed something, and then the highlight jumped to the actual spindle. I literally spent 20 minutes trying to put the gear on the spindle, and I couldn't do it. My hand flopped about with the gear in hand, and even when lined up with the red gear highlight, it still wouldn't go on. It just falls through the spindle to the floor. I finally had enough and just quit the game. If I can't get past the tutorial, something is wrong.

Hello

Sorry to hear you're having problems. Thank you contacting me via the contact form at forthinteract.com as this is the best way to get support. I responded to you 33 minutes later requesting further info so I can see what's wrong. I am concerned that you said "The highlight was on a wall with no spindle" as this should never happen. I look forward to receiving your response so I can check out for any issues. Until then, the notes below might help as to what is expected behaviour.

Gear Out is a puzzle game where you attach gears to spindles in a specific order to make them all drive each other. In the tutorial, one of the spindles lights up in blue to guide you where to attach a gear. This only happens in the tutorial. When you are holding a gear in your hand, you can try and place it on a spindle - either directly by moving the gear to the rough vicinity of your intended spindle, or by pointing your laser at a spindle. The spindle will light up green if it is possible for the gear to be attached or red if it is not possible. The main reason why it might not be possible to attach a gear to a spindle is that the gear is too large to fit the available space. So if the spindle goes green and you let go of the gear, it will snap into place on the spindle. Otherwise if you let a gear go when the spindle is red (or you haven't highlighted any spindle) then the gear will just drop to the floor as any other object will if you let it go.

Each gear has a weight and this is reflected in how it interacts with the hand. The smaller lighter gears are easy to flick around with your hand. The larger heavier gears are not so easy and will swing your hand as a heavy weight will do in real life. This is an intentional behaviour to try and make the environment feel more physical and real. However, it can be disabled in the control panel by unchecking "use weighted gears".

Hopefully that helps, but otherwise respond to the email I sent and we'll work through it.

David.

It's good

A little janky, but it's very good. I didn't get very far as I'm not smart enough for this sort of game - too hard for me. If you like puzzle games definitely try this.

A new type of puzzle solving game.

This is a very interesting “puzzle” type of game. Let’s be clear that the player (you) will have many opportunities to have the crap scared out of you. Nice and creepy. In short, you must first locate the required gears that need to be placed on the gear-wall, and in the correct order to move to the next level. Cool thing is that the puzzles and time requirements to advance are very reasonable. You pickup and place the gears using Psionic-type method. Highly recommend this game.

Gear out

Really like this game. Very different and the graphics a great. But I cannot get past level 13. The game glitches out. I had the gears all set and the game went completely black. Had to start the level over. Then finally did get through the door to the 3 chests of gold with the metal elevator but the elevator will not go up. The buttons do not work. So I’ll have to start level 13 yet again. I would love to get to the metal levels. So frustrated. Can anyone help?
UPDATE..
Tech support has already reached out to me and is fixing the problems. Very quick response. Updated my review to 5 stars. Great game and great support. Thank you!

Hello. Thank you very much for the kind comments and for providing accurate feedback via the contact form at forthinteract.com. This is the best way of seeking support, as we don't get notifications that a review has been left, so could miss support requests here.

I've fixed the issue you discovered, which was that those nasty mummies on Level 13 could inadvertently lock the player in a room with no chance to escape! This has been fixed from version 2.06.

Thanks again for the kind comments and I hope you continue to enjoy Gear Out.

Great game!

A great game with great graphics and easy to use controls. A different approach to the ordinary escape room though, making it all the more exciting

Enjoying it

Oh WOW. Completely different to the usual escape room games that I recently got into but still immensely fun. Puzzles in the beginning of the levels are deceivingly easy but do get more and more challenging as you go on. I do not like spider's on the best of days and this game does have a ton of spiders much to my dismay. Anyway, despite my phobia tendencies, it is still a simple but challenging game and a breath of fresh air from the other escape room challenges. The best thing about the game is that you can randomize puzzles and have endless challenges so it does not get stale after time. Furthermore the only addition that would make this game even greater than it already is is if it had a level editor but even without it I would highly recommend this game if you are into puzzles.
