If you like games like the very classic The Incredible Machine, this is a must have! You've got a puzzle campaign, several different VR environments to build in, a sandbox mode, MR mode, and you can build your own puzzles.
The physics are rock solid, the interface and building tools are very satisfying, and there are plenty of different objects to build with. The physics are more on the realistic side, which means a loosely built machine doesn't get the same outcome every time you run it, it gives you a reason to strive for improving your machines or working out kinks.
You can tell a lot of time and care went into making. Can't recommend this one enough, if you like this style of game. And it's a perfect example of what type of games really excel in VR!
Not fun
Would be better if I knew how to go in mixed reality
This little-big contraption creation game was a dream come true to me. I loved building dominoes and marble rails as a kid, and now I can do just that around my house in virtual reality, without buying overpriced kits or making a mess!
The controller gizmos are very uniquely designed and satisfying to use. Despite some physics inconsistencies (which the game warns you of) the game is still solidly constructed and polished. Jumping straight into sandbox after the tutorial makes building seem very daunting and confusing due to the sheer amount of building blocks at your disposal, but Puzzle mode comes in clutch gradually teaching you all about the various pieces and game mechanics, and showing you how to use them, so you can later step back into the playground with renewed confidence. The Puzzle mode structure as one big room full of interconnected levels is also a brilliant way to do progression.
To top it off, you can also use your own room in mixed reality to build all sorts of contraptions on your very own furniture! It really is a great addition, though I do have some gripes about it specifically:
Most importantly, when it comes to generating collisions, the game exclusively uses the scan meshes the headset generates from looking around the environment, which often make surfaces uneven and imprecise. You can work around this by using frozen virtual objects, but a workaround it still is. This problem would be solved by making the game also take into account the manually-created collision boxes, which offer a much higher precision and much smoother and even planes to work with. Not to mention, it would allow to add small details like real life boxes on the fly much quicker and more intuitively, on top of making their collision reliable.
Another issue is that sleep mode causes the built contraptions to be "disoriented" and relocated elsewhere entirely upon turning back on. This might be a MR limitation though.
Finally, as a minor complaint, it would be even more immersive if scan meshes (and possibly collision boxes) hid virtual items behind them, instead of them being visible through furniture. Again, not a major request, but I know of some MR games that successfully pull these kinds of trickeries off, and it would be nice to have them here as well.
Overall this is a fantastic little gem of a toybox, ideal for creative people, works great within its own virtual environments, and with a decent MR integration to bring the fun in you very room. Highly recommended!
I love this game so much. However, I’d like to play the mixed reality on my Meta Quest 2. I searched everywhere and I can’t find any way to turn on mixed reality. Plus, the update board in the office didn’t say anything about mixed reality. Has the update been added yet? Idk. What do you think?
This game is super chill and fun. It can be a bit wonky with placement, but was one of my first VR games and is a lot of fun.
