Escape from X has some great ideas and potential, but it's taking a while to reach it.
At its old price it was tough to recommend, but now available for under £5 it's well worth a look.
Disclaimer: Escape-from-X is currently in Early Access, which comes with its ups and downs. It's not a finished product — and that’s actually both a good and a bad thing. It means we get to watch it evolve, but it also means a few key features are still missing.
What I Don’t Like (Yet):
The story content is still missing. It’s promised and “coming soon,” but as of now, the world lacks the narrative context that could elevate the immersion. Co-op mode is also absent — playing with friends would take this to another level, and I’m really looking forward to that update.
What I Love So Far:
There’s a perfect balance between realism and comfort. The game is hard, and I mean actually hard. You can’t just run around spraying bullets. You need to think like a soldier: reflexes, positioning, orientation, spatial awareness — they all matter. The progression feels fantastic. When you finally get your first AK after working your way through glocks, it feels earned — and powerful. When you lose gear, it’s always because you made a mistake. You learn from it. And often, it’s the kind of lesson that applies to real-life decision making and tactics. After just two weeks of playing, I went from missing every shot to landing headshots consistently, thanks to the amazing shooting range. Funny note: you actually have to bring your own ammo to the range — and there’s a sign saying “auto-supply not working” as an in-game joke. Love that. 😂 The game started off with very basic graphics and assets, but over time it’s grown into something visually impressive and immersive. While there’s currently only one main weapon per engagement type (close, mid, long range + sidearm), the simplicity works — and the devs have promised more variety in future updates. The current system actually makes you think more strategically.
Final Thoughts:
This game is a hidden gem in the making. It's already well worth the price — especially since it’s often available with 50%, 80%, or even 90% discounts if you follow the devs on Discord and social media. I'm genuinely excited to be part of this journey. If the game gets the attention and funding it deserves, the future looks incredible.
I wanted to rate this 5 stars do to the 1 star review that wanted to trash a game that is in development. Just know that if you buy this it is in alpha. After starting the first mission,
I can say the graphics are ok, you can see how they look like in the developers
Videos. The hands are large, and the movement seems kind of slow for this type of game.
I would hear the enemy, turn to look and try to strafe behind cover only to get shot,
because you move slow. I think they are going for more realistic, because you have to
use the sights to hit your enemy. Head shots are effective, and you don't see your bullets
being fired, no tracer lines. you also die quickly, even on normal this game is hard.
You have to go slow, and take out enemy's one by one. For a positive, I am impressed with the voice acting, and like the use of the tablet.
If you want to try this game and pay for it, its kind of like telling the developers your
supporting them and know that there are issues/glitches for now. I had one happen were I grabbed the mag and glitched causing it to fly out of my hand and disappeared. It happened at the beginning of a raid on the base, so I had no bullets to defend with. It has a good set of bones for a game, looking forward to see were it goes.
Sorry all. This is a big disappointment. Not sure why the other reviews gave this anything but 1 star . The graphics are not good, cannot reach the ground when you crouch, so if you drop something you can’t pick it up. Could not get into a raid. Your hands look unrealistically enormous. This should have been a free game. Save your money. Tired of cash grabs that give little to no effort.
This game Is a great game to play! I hope for it to grow!
