I don’t have an interest in Anime but bought this game because it had great reviews and a cool, interesting premise . . . this will be the last game I ever purchase without thoroughly testing within the return period.
Honestly, there is probably a great game here (and beautiful art/visuals) and I could definitely see playing this game on other platforms, but not the Quest 2. This game is far too slow to play with almost 2 lbs. strapped tightly to your head (extra weight = battery pack).
When trying to play on the Quest 2, I could not get past:
1. For every 20 minutes of gameplay, 13-15 minutes are dialogue scenes. Even if you skip through entire conversations without reading them it can still take over a minute.
2. The dialogue comes on screen one sentence or less at a time. You have to acknowledge each and every piece of dialogue separately.
3. Even when you think the dialogue is done, you still can't move right away. Sometimes because there is even more dialogue coming, sometimes for no reason other than the game hasn’t “released” you, and sometimes because there is a message at the very top of the screen/frame you need to acknowledge.
*These messages can be especially irritating if you aren't looking high enough to see them.
4. The grating, helium-voiced sidekick who seems to never stop talking.
5. You cannot play even 2 minutes of this without something in-game interrupting you. There is no immersing yourself in this game, it's like trying to watch a movie while someone else's cell phone keeps going off.
Lastly, and this is by far the least important issue, but please have a native English speaker consult on the dialogue when making a game in English. Some of the speech rhythm, timing, and weird pauses were so bad it made it difficult to understand the tone the dialogue was meant to be spoken in and delivered with.
Great game but I think the ending should be different. Please make more Chronos games.
This is a visual novel from Japan. Great to see a VR take on different genres and I enjoy trying them. I recommend trying a flat screen visual novel to understand where they are coming from with this gameplay.
I really like the ending at the same time I was good and sad I’m not going to lie I cry a little bit at the end I really recommend this game 10/10
