Having a blast playing this game and the devs are really fast to respond.
This game surpassed my expectations for vr disc golf! Its like walkabout mini golf but with discs and baskets! I would like to see more maps in the future!
I’m having a lot of fun playing VR disc golf. Solo or with friends. It comes with 7 Very different and unique courses.
Edit: The developers have done a few updates to improve the throwing and also added a whole new beach map! The new map is really pretty and not as flat so its a lot harder but it's my new favourite map - lots of little detail and each hole feels unique. What makes this game so fun to play is there's no single path to get to a hole, you do a throw and you're playing from that next spot (unless it lands in the water). So you need to adapt to your new location and you spot details you didn't notice before or knew the map had. I'd really love to see some customization where you could modify a map to create a variation where you put the holes in different places and then play your customised map with your friends, but they're still working on improving it.
Also their tiktoks and YouTube videos are really cute, I love indie couple game developers! Highly recommend this especially if you're on the fence especially when there's a sale on because this could be the next walk about mini golf
Original:
Feels really great to play the gameplay is refined and perfect. Don't worry if you suck at throwing Frisbees in real life this is more forgiving but still fantastically simulated physics. Reminds me a lot of walk about minigolf, clearly an inspiration. Has teleport and full locomotion controls and the level design is great and while the lighting could be better the scenery is delightfully crafted. You reach over your shoulder and grab to get a disc - which took me a little too long to figure out but the devs are actively working on the game (they fixed a few things I pointed out the next day on discord! indie developers rock!) - this could be the next walk about minigolf. I love the physics of the chains when the disc hits the goal its just like the real thing! I love that the hands have 3 fingers and you're an alien it makes sense with how the quest controller works while giving a nice theme to the game. Pick it up while it's on sale!
I LOVE in-real-life disc golf, and play regularly. This VR simulation, however, is frustratingly in-accurate. No matter what disc, no matter what adjustments I make to disc angle, disc mechanics, turn off wind entirely, etc, my throws are just… wildly inaccurate. In practice mode, with no wind, if i stand in exactly the same place, and do the same motion, I get wildly different shot placements, and they’re all WRONG: that was NOT what I was aiming for!
I’m on a Quest 3 with up-to-date firmware, and it’s as if it’s losing tracking on the hand with the disc during the windup when my hand is offscreen, and then correcting once the hand enters the view of the headset, with totally unpredictable results.
I can only hit the basket when standing 3 feet away from it: every other throw is randomly too long, too short, funny angle, weird release point. My room lighting is correct, my controllers are full battery, tracking is 100%, just the physics model for the release point of the throw is… random. I can’t even manage to correct for my wonkiness : it’s a randomly different inaccuracy every.single.throw.
Whatever is wrong with the physics model, I can’t throw with any reproducibility whatsoever. Since it’s disc golf, accuracy is the only thing that matters: that’s 99% of the game right there.
Tldr: I’d say, hold off on purchasing until the physics flight model is corrected to allow for decent reproducibility of your shots. Today, it’s just too frustrating: I don’t know what I’m missing in the mechanics, but I play IRL disc golf at a 7/10 level today, and I can barely play at a 2/10 level in this simulation. Just super frustrating. I’ll not ask for a refund, because I want to support Indie devs, but I paid $14 for 15 minutes of annoyance, and had to put it down. Hope it’ll get better, but it’s currently unplayably frustrating for me in its current state on 12/1/2024.
As an avid disc golfer I hated being reduced to only playing when weather allows, now that I've found disc Frenzy I can grind all year around, definitely recommend to all my fellow discers!
