A budget-friendly dance game in a similar style to SynthRiders. It's not as polished as the aforementioned, but for the relatively low price you can pick this up for, it's not too shabby at all. I picked this up around the same time I also picked up OhShape (another dance game), and I prefer this. Costs less than a single SynthRiders DLC pack, and has a pretty decent selection of music - worth checking out if you like this kind of game. :)
I have been an avid fan of this lesser known rhythm VR game since I got my first PC VR headset in 2020. The game offers 9 different operators that come with five individual songs each. All the music is original to the game and offers various sub-genres of EDM. There are some true bangers in the game and even the worst songs are still good. I loved them all.
While the title implies that this game is about dancing, that is not the case. The gameplay is closest to Synth Riders force mode where you have to punch incoming balls of two different colors to the rhythm of the music. The second mechanic involves just following paths of smaller balls with your hands. Sometimes the lane of the incoming balls changes slightly to the left or right so that the player has to move his body accordingly. It’s a very movement intensive game, good for workout sessions. There are four difficulty settings that will make your blood pump.
So why did you never hear about this game or why isn’t it more popular? I honestly don’t know either. Maybe my taste is just weird. Another reason could be that this game didn’t get any significant post launch support. So no downloadable song packs, no new game modes, no multiplayer. There are only highscore lists to compete with other players on. While games like Beat Saber, Synth Riders and Pistol Whip truly evolved over the last few years, this is the exact same experience as five years ago. Still, for 4,99€ you probably can’t get more music workout fun for your buck.
I liked the game so much that I double dipped on the Quest version. A word of advice here: I had some severe performance issues on my Quest 3 with certain songs. Only a few songs are affected by this but they become nigh unplayable because you miss so many notes during these hiccups that it leads to a Game Over screen. Too bad this was never fixed.
Not really as advertised and I think it's not really sure what it's trying to be... Detection is imperfect and hit lines sometimes can be very cluttered and impractical. So, it's not good for punching or percision swings for sake of a workout, and doesn't really work as a dance app.
Some positives... I like the settings menu options, especially the fact that you can customize orb colors, so you can choose what you're used to or like for each hand. In any game of this kind, I prefer Red Right, bLue Left. If only this app were better made and fun, but I appreciate anyone who includes this feature, which not all do.
What am I to do with this app? Imperfect to say the least and no redeeming fun to be had otherwise. So, I guess I'll be requesting a refund
There is really not much dancing in this game. It is actually just a rhythm game.
Why is this? Well:
The hit area is really small and focussed on power. Which already kinda excludes it to be a dancing game. Furthermore it does not have the nodes placed in such a way that actual dancing moves have to be made, there is no such choreography.
Other than that: the giant is making random (repeated) moves which have nothing to do with the moves that have to be done. Luckily the giant can be turned off since it is just a distraction (and does not invoke the feeling of 'dancing against this character' as supposed to be the intention). Lastly, the graphics are quite bad. No inspiring environment. The nodes are not even that smooth.
I have all dancing and rhythm games available on the quest 2, but unfortunately this is the worst of them all.
Am I supposed to follow the giant person? On easy I feel like I am just standing there ? What am I doing wrong? I have synth riders and this feel, like a carbon copy. Please enlighten me
So fun and great music! Actually better than synth riders!
