"Astral Guardian: The Quest of Lyria" invites players into a vibrant, cartoonish universe where dimensions are at risk and memories hang in the balance. Under the dark shadow of Mordrax, the tyrant who has enslaved the universe, players join Lyria, the last Dimensional Nomad, on a quest to recover Memory Fragments from various dimensions. Each fragment not only holds the power to challenge Mordrax but also preserves the memories, histories, and very souls of every dimension's inhabitants.
What sets this game apart is its innovative mixed-reality gameplay. While guiding Lyria using the joystick, players can also interact directly with the environment. Grab, shift, and manipulate objects to solve intricate puzzles and help Lyria succeed. This unique blend offers a fresh and immersive experience, making the game stand out on the Oculus platform.
Designed with families and kids in mind, the game delivers fun, challenge, and creativity in equal measure. Although currently featuring one world with four engaging levels, "Astral Guardian" is ever-expanding, with more worlds and adventures on the horizon. And for those competitive spirits, the integrated high-score board adds a layer of replay value. Battle for the top spot, see how your performance stacks up against others, and immerse yourself in this captivating MR adventure!

I thought this could be a fun enough little game, especially for $2. But I literally am not going to make myself use the very oddly laid out control scheme that you cannot change to play it...
The character is moved with the RIGHT thumbstick, as if everyone is left-handed. The movementand tower rotation sticks should be reversed from what they are now by default...
Also the jump button being on the left trigger isn't great either. I highly doubt the game uses many buttons at all, so why not use the face buttons like the average 3D platform-esque games this title is surely inspired by?!
At that, why can't I change the control layout at all? Because though your told you can switch steering using the menu button, NOTHING happens when I press it. So I can't change anything, can't even pause the game without using the Quest menu button...
Also, the fact that you can't readjust the location of the tower without completely backing out and restarting the game is an unnecessary hinderance for those with very limited space.
But mainly because of the very strange controls that takes forgetting all muscle memory from nearly EVERY 3rd-person game I've played since the '90s (what were you guys thinking here... Seriously..), I think I'm just getting a refund.
Because even $2 is way too much for something I just can't use.
Am I moving with the right thumbstick??? Switch it and we’ll talk.
Generally, I like such games. A small world, a diorama, where you control a character and have to solve puzzles. There's a lot of potential in this genre. This game also has a lot of potential, but unfortunately, it falls short. What's the most important aspect of such a game? The graphics need to be right, the controls should be good, and the puzzles interesting. The graphics here are fine, and the puzzles have a good foundation.
However, the controls are a major drawback. Both available control options are not good. I also don't like the jumping mechanics, which need optimization. Games like Down the Rabbit Hole, Carly and the Reaperman, or Cactus Cowboy - Emilio's Adventure do it much better.
Another issue I see is that the diorama is static. Why not make it flexible (at least rotatable, even better scalable) like in Kartoffl, Pathcraft, Down the Rabbit Hole, Islanders, or Lego Bricktails?
Improving just the controls and the optimization of the diorama would make the game significantly better. Currently, it's at 2.5 stars, with the potential for much more… I will continue to follow its development.
I often play at work while I wait for calls in a little cubicle and this game looked like it would be perfect. And it would be if you could move the island around. I get that you want me to get up and walk around it, but I don’t have room for that. If we could move the island around instead of ourselves around the island, it would be great. Something like the movement in Space Folk City where you can spin the world around from anywhere, or even just adding knobs you can grab to move the island around, the way you can move the board around in Bam! would work beautifully.
Wow, this game is currently free!!!!
Honestly, I enjoyed playing this so much! Notes for devs: The controls seem to be backwards. I got better as I progressed through the game. I would pay for this game happily, if the controls become easier!
Fantastic game overall, I will be recommending it on my channel!
UPDATE: Review video out now! 🤩👌

i like the concept. please let me control directions with the left thumbstick, and use the right thumbstick only for going back or forth 🙏
Edit: the developers are nice!
