+ CANNES XR 2022 OFFICIAL SELECTION

AREA MAN LIVES. Or does he? If you could join a radio drama already in progress, talk to the characters and interact with the environments the story painted in your mind, you might find yourself in the world of the area man.

A quirky radio drama unfolds around you in VR while you do your best to keep the radio station humming along as its new DJ. You record commercials, interview callers and try your best to piece together how your actions inside the station impact your listening audience in scenarios so wild they can only live in your imagination.

If it all feels like too much, don’t worry, you’ll have your lonely producer, the resident skeptic, to guide you on your way, not to mention the vaguely British female voice inside your head.

When an unusual area man calls into the station asking for your help, you have to act fast. Will you trust the area man, or do your best to thwart his plans? Is there anything you can do to save the area man from himself?

Boring

I would have more fun lighting a $20 bill on fire and watching it burn.

I hate not loving it

I wish I would give 5 stars, unfortunately it became so frustrating to do the same things all over again. I’ve played games in which I had to go backwards but the challenges were gone, so I didn’t have to do it again. I just found out there’s a way to cut all the talk, I don’t think no one likes sitting there just listening to extensive talking between the characters and then having to hear them repetitively . I will try to finish the game if I can at least cut the talking. If it wasn’t for that it would be a great game.

Hi lenefa,
We're sorry some aspects of the game weren't to your liking! With a game focused around being a disc jockey at a radio station, talking plays a huge part in the experience.
We hope you'll continue and find the rest of the game enjoyable.
Best wishes!

Mixed feelings

Pros: the concept is really cool - I've not seen a puzzle game using audio like this before and enjoyed putting on voices for the DJing. The surreal world building with utopitech and the deja vu were very interesting, while I would've loved to see it more fleshed out, think it was in keeping with the theme of the game to leave a lot of the why and how unexplained. Voice acting was good, conveyed the tones very well. Good music, loved rocket tow truck. Appreciate the work put into the script.

Cons: hated nearly all the characters' dialogue, they felt either really whiny or condescending or one-dimensional. I don't think the mic picked up my voice half the time which broke the immersion, and the controllers weren't great at picking up my movements - I spent ages trying to open the music box. The "angry pregnant wife" plot with her weird epiphany about her flaws was my least favorite route, and somehow felt like it took the longest to resolve so I was mentally checked out by the time it finished.

One resolved con: not a fan of how I had to sit through the same dialogue repeatedly, very relieved when I realized there was an option to skip to the end of a section when I pressed the menu button on my left controller.

This game is sooooooo much fun! I don’t want to give any spoilers so I really can’t say too much. You need to experience this one for yourself. I haven’t ever played a game like it. Though I do own not for broadcast as well. I haven’t gotten the chance to play that one yet but I expect it will be the blast that this one is! There are moments of suspense, lots of humor, and the nerves I felt when I needed to go on “live on air” as a radio host for the first time. This game is an experience. It’s an awesome ride! You will love it!!!
