Most imaginative shooter/game ever

This is everything!
I hyped it up in my mind in such anticipation I’m thinking I’ve ruined this game for myself already.

I don’t play sandbox shooters anymore because I did that for a year and I’m shot and uninspired yet they keep coming out one after the other.

Then Shock Troops came out and that really got me going for ID games and 90’s shooters like Doom and Quake and Duke Nukem.

This game seems to have the whole thing just be DOOM, with the pixelation and the way they do the sky. The hidden rooms and blitz killings.

The graphics are perfect. I can’t ask for more knowing what the Quest is capable of. It’s perfect for this game. The low res brings you back home.

But the real deal comes within the game’s design. I mean I thought it was going to get tacky once I saw the checkered level (which I loved) but it only got more out there. I mean it’s just out there for miles. I dare you to name me a shooter more imaginative and outrageous than this one. I love the enemies as the variety is deep. I stopped counting how many different enemies there are, like over 30 maybe? Each section provides a whole slew of them and a brand new motif to each level.

This game is wild! I think there are like 6 different weapons including a pitch fork, mace, sword, staff, planet launcher (yup), and pink squiggly wavy lines subsisting of a weapon. All weapons are projectiles with the exception of the defaulted axe of which I never use.

But seriously, the level design is outrageous. Up is down, down is up. Crazy color schemes, a body of water up in the air in the middle of the room. Water bubbles to travel on, and a flying mechanic. Swirling paths to lead to swirling rooms and into madness.

It’s not easy describing the indescribable so I will not try to go further into the depth of the levels.

The game is outrageously long, at least for me because I take my time looking for hidden rooms (it’s hard).

Currently I still haven’t finished the game and it’s beyond 10 hours easy. But the last level I played was so indescribable, I had to write something.

The music is deep, as in it moves me. It’s so focused on melody and ambiance and does it so well. I wish I could download it somewhere.

No joke. Absolutely most imaginative shooter I’ve ever played for miles, and one of the more imaginative games in any genre I’ve played.

You should be advised that I only recommend the hard difficulty as anything else isn’t really hard enough. That is definitely noticeable. Warrior mode will add a challenge to each difficulty starting you off with your weak defaulted axe on each turn leaving all your previously collected weapons behind.

Excellent!

It's always been a great game but got even better after the last update. Beautiful graphics, atmospheric music, mind blowing level design ( the level to the last boss is a real trip) and you also get horde mode which is preety cool too. The only question is when/if we are getting The Black Labyrinth dlc? I played it on PC too and it's exact same game, no cuts to VR so great job. Again , give us The Black Labyrinth ( buying day one).

Excellent

A solid modern take on the retro style of FPS, and this VR port is definitely well done. Highly recommend 👍

Very fun

With the latest update the gameplay is much smoother, controls feel great (specifically using the mace) and the axe throwing is so satisfying especially in the endless mode!

I wish the endless mode saved your score (the highest wave reached and the number of kills)

👌 feels 10/10

Never been so compelled to write a review so quickly. Not even played an hour.

Why the 5 stars? If I'm not playing rhythm games I'm shooting stuff, played tonnes of vr fps games and this just had me moving around the map with such precision and control immediately. Absolutely nailed the immediacy and razor sharp twitch movement needed for boomer shooters.

Compound was until now king in this department, Amid EVIL is top tier, and feels more reliable, consistent and tight. Perhaps the best yet?

Can't comment too much on pretty much the rest of the game 😂 but from what I saw the level design is tight and truly in keeping with 90s era map design and the weaponry is far less constricted to melee than the screenshots portray.

Despite my preference for online, truly looking forward to sinking time into this
