I couldn’t figure out how to move or adjust anything to be within reach.
So I finally did purchase the all in one bundle for this because I like playing board games and don't really have anyone else to play with within the family. The only game I knew the rules of in this was the "escape the dark castle" and I did enjoy playing this (solo as well as multiplayer). However, while playing solo and taking turns for multiple players, I really did think that this could have done with having AI players. I am looking forward to learning the rules for the other board games and enjoying them like the only other game that I do understand. If the developers are reading this then please... PLEASE this awesome game could really use a solo AI mode for players who would like to practice and learn the rules. If you still are on the fence about buying this game and you would like to re-live your youth by playing board games with other people: I would suggest you buy it (even the base game as you do not need to purchase the games as long as the other player has them). It has a nice selection of games and hopefully, more to come.
I think this app has a really good concept, but it's a shame it doesn't support Korean. Please support Korean.
I finally decided to give this title a try after much back-and-forth over the last few months. I saw the Devs had recently completed an update with some improvements that I thought might finally make it worth my while.
To be clear, I do not play board games on a regular basis in real life. But I enjoy some of the classics and would love to explore more board games in the VR medium. I think VR is a great place for board games and tabletop experiences and I wish we had more of this type of thing.
The immersive environments that are designed for each game looked very, very cool and engaging. But when I started playing, I realized that the tabletop simulator part of this meant absolutely no game mechanics to help you progress through the game, or know when something is being done right or wrong, or provide any additional engagement.
The game previews are a great idea and I watched one of the tutorial videos for the Dark Castle game to give it a try, but I still didn’t get a clear sense of the gameplay from that video alone. It still seemed confusing and hard to get into with so many things to remember as a new player.
This game badly needs mechanics. I think a medium like VR should enhance existing real life experiences. But in order for this game to be a success, this bare bones approach to mechanics has to change. The average person is not going to take the time to read through an entire Wiki on a game or watch and re-watch a video to learn how to play.
And every player would need to do this if they don’t already know how to play the game. I could see if this was Uno or Monopoly or some very well-known boardgames that most people know how to play. But these are niche games for folks who are already into the medium of board gaming. The average person is not going to have heard of these games or have any idea how to facilitate a good gameplay session.
I think if the Devs can listen to customer feedback, which has been plenty and forthcoming, and despite their original idea for what the game could be…realize that the public is asking for step-by-step tutorials and game mechanics so that these games are playable for the average person with no experience, then they can have a successful game.
If they stick with their hardheaded approach to this being a tabletop simulator and nothing else, then this will continue to be a title that gets buried on the store with potential and customers lost. I originally wanted to buy this to try it so that my SO could also buy it and we could play together but, unfortunately it’s a refund for me.
Right. Just do not listen to the negative reviews by people who simply have not understood what this is.
This is like Tabletop Simulator, which I have played in VR, and we had lots of issues with moving other's game components whenever we moved our own. It was unplayable.
But this game works perfectly.
The graphics are excellent. I would recommend Quest Games Optimiser to increase resolution, but it is certainly not required.
The game boards and assets are extremely high quality. Manipulating items and dice is simple and intuitive.
Repositioning yourself is easy.
AND, although there aren't rule books for each game, there are in-game videos that teach each game perfectly. If you struggle with any rules, just ask ChatGPT - it knows all of the rules.
The surrounding environments change for each game. For example, Escape the Dark Castle places your game table in a dungeon.
The DLC games are great for initial choices. Terraforming Mars - great game. Escape the Dark Castle - great game. Istanbul - great game. Rallyman- great game. And more - and clearly more to come.
Devs, thanks for this game, and thanks for allowing other players to play the DLC games as long as one person has bought it. I bought all DLC immediately and gifted this game to three of my mates. Worth every penny.
Does this mean hero quest is coming 🤔
After owning this game for months and never playing it because I thought a plethora of table top games was going to be coming through here and still no new games in sight its very disappointing I think the whole concept of doing this in vr is great though
