Touchly is the next evolution of the VR video player. Turn videos into volumetric, immersive experiences.
It features:
- Virtual hands that react to the video environment.
- Six-degrees-of-freedom playback: Reduce eye strain and move freely with position tracking.
- Passthrough mode: Bring videos to your reality. Hologram-like.
- Play in most of the common layouts (180/360/Flat in Stereo/Mono) and formats (mp4, avi, mkv, mov, webm).
Other features include:
- Local streaming: With our new server app Touchly Cast.
- Hand tracking support.
- TactGlove support for haptics.
- Advanced settings: Rotation, position, color adjustment, depth adjustments, etc.
- Depth and Color matting for passthrough.
- Watch local or remote files with streaming.
- Customizable hands.
Important note: To watch videos in volumetric mode, they need to be converted first with Touchly Renderer (touchly.app/renderer). Only a couple of demo videos are included in the app.

This pretty much rescues every stereo-180degree video and makes it a real 3D volume that allows you to move around in naturally without being forced to keep you head level and in one position. Every stereo-180 video file needs to be converted to this format asap.
INCREDIBLE free movie player and works INCREDIBLE with the 3D 6DoF Volumetric features when using the Touchly encoder or other encoders that output depthmap video files. There is a free encoder the dev offers or a "pro" version for $10. TOTALLY worth it. It uses motion flow to create the depth map video. You can also use my modified version of DepthAnythingV2 at github[DOT]com/petermg/Depth-Anything-V2-16bit to generate Touchly1 volumetric 6DoF videos from 2D video files.
There is no option to brows for local files outside of the movies folder and the options to play volumetric video are greyed out. Probably can only play their own generated videos. I was looking to play rgbd video.
This app is fantastic and provides ways of experiencing videos in VR that I haven’t seen anywhere else. As others mentioned, rendering and moving videos to your headset may be more work then some people are looking for - but if you have the time and interest it’s awesome!
Rating this four stars as it's a great app, but there's a lot more development and support that needs to happen to really make this something everyone can enjoy and not just the experimental virtual hacker crowds. The developer is very active on the discord and takes feedback and suggestions seriously.
watch only mode so good !
