Manhole Watch VR Training is an immersive virtual reality learning experience designed to prepare personnel for the critical role of monitoring confined space entry operations in industrial process plants. The training focuses on maintaining continuous safety oversight while supporting column inspectors during inspection activities.

Participants assume the role of Manhole Watch and are responsible for managing all external monitoring tasks before, during, and after confined space entry. The experience is partially guided, with a virtual trainer, Oxy, introducing the scenario, objectives, and key safety requirements, followed by independent monitoring and response activities.

Core responsibilities include conducting pre-entry atmosphere checks, tracking inspector entry and exit times, maintaining attendee sheets and work permits, and continuously monitoring gas detector readings. Trainees act as the primary communication link between the inspector and the control room, using radio messages, visual cues, and avatar interactions.

Randomized scenarios introduce changing conditions such as oxygen deficiency, dropped tools, equipment failures, and communication challenges. Trainees must respond quickly and correctly by initiating emergency procedures, coordinating equipment replacement, and ensuring safe inspector exit. The training reinforces vigilance, accurate documentation, and effective coordination, building confidence and proficiency in confined space safety operations.
