The “How to Rescue a Reef” underwater experience emulates the real-world coral reef research and restoration efforts led by the University of Miami Rosenstiel School’s (UM) Rescue a Reef program. Rescue a Reef (RAR) is UM’s coral conservation program designed to build community and coastal resilience through coral reef education, restoration, and citizen science. To accomplish this, RAR hosts public field expeditions led by UM coral scientists that provide a unique, hands-on opportunity for recreational SCUBA divers and snorkelers to participate directly in coral research and reef restoration activities. However, this “How to Rescue a Reef” virtual reality coral restoration expedition opens the door for any individual, regardless of age, ability, or location, to dive into marine science! This is your opportunity to be a marine biologist for a day, working to restore the future of coral reefs.
