1. prepare the hotplate, water, beaker, clock, thermometer, and stand
2. secure the digital thermometer to the stand
3. put the water into the beaker
4. place the beaker with water on the hotplate so that the digital thermometer is submerged in the water
5. turn on the switch on the hotplate
6. press the Start button on the second hand clock
7. press the second hand at 5 minute intervals and measure the temperature of the water at each interval
8. check the temperature of the water after it boils and observe the temperature change of the water
