Can't play offline

At this price point you should be able to play anywhere, especially in single player mode.

The second consideration is the at you can't play, everytime they have a hiccup in their servers, and the game will be useless once the company goes bust

Reply: thank you for your response, but the whole point of this review was to point out the inaccuracies or your response. Already, you can't play single player if your servers are down

Hi Scarred. Thanks for the honest feedback. I may take into the consideration of lowering the base package price here in the near future once we move from Early Access to full release.

Glider Sim’s default maps are fully playable offline. The only requirement is a quick verification check at game startup, which exists purely to help prevent piracy. Once verified, you can enjoy the core experience in single-player without an active internet connection.

The part of the game that requires an online connection is Earth Online, which allows you to fly anywhere on the planet using real-world 3D terrain and imagery streamed via Cesium and Google’s photorealistic data services. As well as utilizing Google Places, Geo Coding API's, and Custom Web API's for storing saved launch sites. These services are not free for me as a developer. they come with ongoing licensing and streaming costs that we must cover to provide a global, high-fidelity flying experience. This is why Earth Online is an optional feature and not bundled as unlimited offline content.

Regarding server reliability and the future of the company: if our servers ever experienced issues, the offline default maps would still remain playable. And if the company were to no longer operate, users would still retain access to those offline maps and core simulator functionality.

I genuinely appreciate the concern and the chance to explain how the system works. The goal is always to balance accessibility, realism, and sustainability so Glider Sim can continue improving long-term.

terrific

Google Earth + gliding/flight sim mechanics is a terrific thrill like few others in VR

pretty awesome graphics on Quest as well, including shadows

I only took out a star because I think Google API integration still needs some work. For instance, sometimes you pick a place on the map to take off from, it places you right there, but as soon as you hit Fly it just randomly throws you to another area miles away....

I don't have a problem with the subscription to access the Google map data after free first month... it's absolutely worth it

Thanks for the great review namekuseijin. The bug you mention with randomly throwing you to another location should be fixed in the latest update ;)

This was a huge disappointment, visually speaking.

Hi LaughingEagle, sorry to hear. What did you find visually disappointing just out of curiosity? Were you flying Earth Online or the Default maps?

Extreme Begeisterung

Why not an Google Earth quality Slider to change quality? 😒

Bad is a very nice game I like and love this ❤️👈

Hi Extreme Begeisterung. In the latest version I have added an Earth Online / Google Earth quality slider in the graphics settings! Note that cranking up the settings may have an undesired effect on smoothness / framerate.
