The stability is much better with a logitech mx ink pen. Sketching large is cool. Tapered lines that respond to imaginary pen pressure are gorgeous. Its a really great tool to study art without an expensive art school. Works great on my quest 2.
The biggest downside for me is the dependence on opacity to create value. All vr art programs use it, but this program depends on it. I wish opacity was replaced with particle effects, or the addition of a blending stump.
I bought this app to compliment my Logitec MX Ink pen and it works great with it. I actually think for sketching that Gesture VR is a really good app.
HOWEVER...... there is a serious flaw in the app which basically renders the app in my opinion useless!! I don't like to give a bad rating but I have to reiterate what some other users have pointed out (several months ago) that after so long sketching on a sheet, you find that you suddenly can't draw or edit the sheet anymore. You can add another sheet to your board and draw/edit away again but when you go back to the sheet you were sketching on it doesn't allow you to draw anymore (even when you reload the app).
This is incredibly frustrating as on 3 occasions when I have been drawing a portrait for a fair length of time I suddenly can't sketch any more. I'm amazed the devs haven't fixed this or even answered the previous reviews which point out the same problem.
Therefore, until I hear of a patch that fixes this, I simply won't be using it because what is the point because you can't finish any drawings!!!
I basically feel that I've wasted my money (unless it's fixed of course).
I therefore could not recommend this app to anyone at the moment because even though it is very good you cannot finish any drawings rendering the app in my opinion a waste of effort and time.
I will of course change my review and give it 5 stars if the Devs can please, please - please fix it. Thanks!
I really like this app but at times the pen won’t touch the canvas when I’m getting to by the edge of it. I also find it hard to work out exactly when the pen will start drawing, how close to have it.
also it would be nice to be able to lock down the model as I press the wrong button and it moves/the lights move etc
I am going to still keep trying as I like the idea but I feel it could be a bit more precise
I’ve been a professional model for more than 30 years, and I’m so glad I stumbled on this because it’s actually hard for me to draw from other models in person. I tend to get distracted by how awesome they are—unless they’re not, in which case I want throw them off the stand and get up there myself. You see the problem. So it’s cool to draw from scans of real, great models. And I find it absolutely hilarious that there is a heater on the stand, I’m glad the virtual models won’t get cold.
I have suggestions. I would love more control of the eraser, to be able to use it as a subtractive tool. Control of the size, control of the shape.
I have not found a way to lock the pose and the lighting in freeform. You could call it the “tape” feature, after a model calling out they need help marking the pose so they can take a break!
No reclining poses except from the statues?
A more detailed skull would be awesome.
I am using a Meta 2 with a Logitech stylus.
I have the quest 2 and the mixed reality does not work great in that headset, this is why I had doubts about this app at first. I have being using it for some time now and the truth is that I do not miss that feature at all. I guess it is great to have if you have the quest 3, but the in app drawing works great and it is entertaining and very useful to practice anatomy.
Just beginning. Open onto tutorial options, controls and drawing. My long arms barely reach leaning forward the options. No laser trigger pointer? So far no idea how to bring up menu, just how to use it or how to access paper. Light on training but expect better later into hunt and peck discover.
