This is hands down one of the best experiences I've had since getting the Quest 3. The navigtion is smooth and easy and the sense of scale while exploring, even in street view are someting you just dont get outside of VR. I love just picking somewhere random and going and having a look around. Also in the few months I've had it, it has had so many new features (time machine is amazing) and quality of life changes tweaked that in some ways it feels like a completely new app.
I want to know whether to buy ai to have Street View?
My VR travel experience started with the Wander app in 2019 and with my new Quest 3, I am upgrading my library with new releases that my very old Oculus VR set cannot handle. The change in technology between my old touring app and this one is remarkable. The graphics are excellent. The user experience is fabulous.
I am using the app to develop a cross country tour on my bicycle from Florida to California, and I am using Streetview to check out bridges and intersections on my route. I can easily fly to sections of my route and check out the details on ground level. It is a very smart design, saving lots of time and unnecessary clicks.
It took a moment for me to understand how to fly using the app, but it is fantastic to be able to explore the route I am designing as if you were flying in a helicopter or flying as a bird. It is an incredible experience. With this, I will be very well prepared for my tour. I added the AI option as it provides greater context to the scenery.
One recommendation: I suddenly got an "out of memory" notice and the app stopped, despite my 512 GB memory version of the Quest VR set..
This happened after an hour or so of flying using the highest resolution. Not a big deal, but perhaps you can improve your cache / memory management a bit, as it took me out of the flow so to speak. Otherwise, this is absolutely 5 stars.
Wander is now something of the past. This app is my new future, enjoying regular updates and new features.
I hesitated a long time to write a review because a review should add the objectivity of comparison. In the end I'm writing the review because I don't feel the need to compare this app with a similar one.
The app is good enough for my eyesight, good enough for the processing speed of my VR Glasses. Good enough for my Fresnel lenses and my internet speed. I'm spending 10-15 hours a week traveling, flying, smiling. When I hear the ambient music I'm already the dog of Pavlov, it sets me in travel mode right away.
The developer is active and responsive on Discoord, I hope all the time he spend is time well worth [and I mean also financially].
Gotta go now. Places to visit, screens to record. Bye
Has some nice features but I really bought it for the supposed AI-powered ’Upscale 3D Imagery". To my disappointment the 3d imagery is Google earth's 3d images, no upscale whatsoever. Also the controllers for flight are not good - turning is in steps, not continous like in Woorld...
This is probably the best Google Earth VR alternative on Quests, however it has a few important issues which could easily be fixed.
Usability issues:
Pointing causes issues because it both moves you and interacts with the interface elements (movement only gets disabled when your pointer finger is practically touching the primary menu, and movement isn't disabled at all when pointing at the keyboard). It would be useful to have access to settings which could prevent this, such as having an option to disable movement when the menu/keyboard is open/facing the viewpoint. Another way to fix this could be having alternate hand gestures for moving. Also perhaps being able to control the speed by holding out a different number of fingers could work well.
Aesthetic issues:
The transition between the high elevation map and low elevation map is jarring. The pass through mode is a good idea, but it isn't well implemented. The horizon is far too high, this could be fixed with an fov slider which controls the angle from your feet which the earth fades into pass through. An alternative pass through mode where you could look through a portal which you could control the size of would also be interesting.
Hope some of these improvements make it in so I can improve my rating!
