It opens up a world of art. This app has some issues... The filter buttons are mislabeled and sometimes the navigation breaks. Occasionally a painting the size of a building appears.
But that doesn't matter because this app is priceless. Especially if you have quest 3.
With this app you can explore many museum collections at once, see paintings in life size, step close and see the brushwork, and generally spend a lot of time with an artwork. And that's incredibly valuable. Because I don't know of any other way to experience paintings at their correct size and inspect them in such a natural way.
Looking at paintings on a computer can feel like Instagram, and museums are great but unless you're by yourself you've always got friends to keep up with, and usually I end up not having time to give a painting more than 120 seconds of my attention. Not to mention the security systems making it impossible to examine the paintings in detail.
Then there's the fact that for every painting you can see in a museum there's loads more in storage which you will not see today. While with this app you can see many paintings currently in storage.
There are many clever technical details about this app - be sure to stay with a painting for a minute and let it load in full hd, some paintings are really amazingly high res. But the antialiasing is well implemented to minimize jagged and vibrating edges.
Just a super worth it experience.
Some possible additions:
- Sometimes I wish I could elevate up and down with large paintings.
- Custom galleries, like playlists in Spotify.
- Guessing games, like randomized galleries where your goal is to guess artist, date, genre etc ... Like In Google arts and culture.
- multiplayer of course so you can view paintings with your friends
I have been waiting for an app like this! I get to see great works of art, from my living room, it's great.
Great but simple concept and a nearly endless amount of content. Higher resolution images load as you get closer and in many cases you can see incredible detail and brush strokes. The gallery itself could look a bit less sterile but I like that there are at least some customization options (frame material, floor material etc).
Edit: The issue below was fixed incredibly quickly and is no longer a problem, thank you!
Dev, please look into likely bugged Quest 3 right hand controls. Turning and teleport movement seem to lock up consistently after a short time; I see the in game joystick/buttons react but I am unable to rotate!
This is fantastic - really enjoy the groupings by artist or movement or collection. The information provided and ability to have it read to you is wonderful. Will recommend to anyone who, like me, has been hoping for something just like this!

As an artist and art lover, this VR app is a dream come true. The immersive experience, quality of photos, and inclusion of biographies and painting descriptions are exceptional. The paintings are true to scale (the most immersive aspect) since it’s difficult to grasp the artist’s work and intention in books or on screens. Having been to many galleries around the world, I can say this is one step closer to the real deal. Except it’s all in one place! Even more impressive is that this app offers not only a private retrospective of famous artists, but also of obscure ones. Easily 5 out of 5 stars, the best art history app by far. Big thanks to the developer for bringing this to life.
