I’ve Been so good on gtag cause of alvr
The preds are PERFECT even though it’s laggy pretty good app and I love the way I can connect multiple headsets very good 10/10
Finally i can play PC VR.
Because my GPU doesn't have hardware encoding i couldn't play PC VR via steam or oculus. But recently i discovered ALVR and finally i don't have to play standalone on my quest 2 anymore. The setup was very easy. İ've had my problems at the beginning with a black screen and bad connections but i fixed it all with some tweaks in the settings. İ would recommend anyone who has a USB WiFi dongle to upgrade on a pcie wifi card, because doing so increases the image quality drastically.
The reason I was able to switch to Linux
This app is awesome. VR was one of the few things stopping me from ditching Windows. I heard vr was possible with ALVR but it was really complicated. That's old news though! I was up and running playing my favorite VR titles immediately. Most important was Automobilista 2 with my wheel and pedals. I just had to add an argument into Steam VR so everything would show up. A lot of great settings to tune to get the best image and frame rate. I'm running this flawlessly on CachyOS! I downloaded WlxOverlay so I can see my desktop. 😃
Installation broke Steam VR
Be careful with this app. After installing ALVR, SteamVR stopped launching entirely. I spent hours trying to figure out what happened. If this happens to you, navigate to:
…/username/AppData/Local/openvr
and delete the openvr.vrpath file.
Only do this if you’re sure ALVR broke your setup. This fixed the issue for me.
Intel Arc GPU workaround
This was the best supported Intel Arc GPu workaround that I found. At least the only one that was free and still pretty useful. I hear Virtual Desktop is best but I can shell out the money for it after finally building my first PC. Every game I’ve tried to PCVR stream with it has worked great! Just make sure you follow the set up and take some time to fiddle with the settings. I set my constant Bitrate to about 250 and it’s been pretty smooth on my Intel Arc B580.
It’d be great if it was able to help optimize the performance though. So many options it gets confusing.
